Schlosshotel Velden in Velden, Austria
Location: Velden, Austria
Products Used: Zero %, Rasoself, Color.Oil, Fix.Oil
Vermeister products played a crucial part in fitting no fewer than 3,900m2 of solid oak parquet in the brand new reconstruction of the old Schlosshotel Velden. Many architects regard the way in which the project combined the old and the new as a perfect example of modern renovation. The project was granted to a firm of architects from Vienna, Jabornegg & Pàlffy, who also won the International Architects Competition in 2004.
The beautiful setting is quite breathtaking. You can bathe in green at a mere stone's throw from the calming presence of Lake Velden (Austria). Schloss Velden has always been a place of delight where distinguished guests could revel in the joys of life. Today, the splendid renaissance castle has been turned into a world famous hotel which retains all the charm and splendour of its glorious past. If that isn't enough, a modern complex has also emerged. Next to the original building and incorporated in masterly fashion, the new complex has private residences of a grade never seen. Yet this was the grade of the 'paradise' of Velden back in the 16th century. Baron Bartholomüs (Barthlmä) Khevenhüller discovered this wonderful spot near Lake Velden and started to build the castle around 1590. The building was to become a rest home for the elderly and was erected in renaissance style. It had three floors and regal polygonal corner towers perched majestically on the 4 corners. Impressive farmhouses were constructed behind the castle itself. In 1762, large sections of the castle were ravaged by a severe fire. In 1890, Ernst Wahlis, an industrialist from Vienna, purchased the castle. He restored part of the building using old plans and renovated the rest in neo-renaissance style. The reconstruction was designed by Wilhelm Hes, an architect from Vienna. The 1920s and 30s witnessed various renovations and extensions which were designed by architect Franz Baumgartner.
