La Scala in Milan, Italy

La Scala

Location: Milan, Italy
Products Used: Repox, Master Fire

Inaugurated in 1778, La Scala is one of the most famous opera houses in the world. Completely restored from 2002-2004, VerMeister was honored to help return this crown jewel to its former glory. By providing their finest adhesives and finishes for the hardwood floors, La Scala's beauty is now more radiant than ever and a renowned source of European pride.

For two years (July '02 to October '04) La Scala was shut down entirely to accommodate a massive renovation and restoration project, reportedly costing 61 Million Euro (73 Million USD). Protected by VerMeister's two-component fire-resistant "Master Fire" finish and secured with their high-end two-component epoxy-polyurethane adhesive, these floors are sure to stay beautiful for years to come. With great detail put into the acoustics of the theater, the chairs were screwed directly into the floor so the audience can experience the true sound and vibrations of the productions. Great care was also used to restore the inlayed oak, walnut and cherry inlays in the mains halls to revitalize the original design and feel of this aged wonder.
