Routine Hardwood Floor Maintenance
Vacuum, sweep, or dust mop your floors regularly. For brooms, we recommend nylon brooms (straw brooms tend to be too rough) for vacuums only use the "hard-surface" setting and for dust mops, make sure they are untreated. This regular cleaning will help keep the dirt and grit off your floor that causes premature wear and scratches. If you will be having a major event, clean your floors both before and after. Increased traffic on the floor will result in more damage from dirt or grit.
To clean your floors we recommend the Merlino Cleaning Kit which includes both Detergent Neutro and Idronet as they are specially formulated to care for your Vermeister floors. Simply follow the directions for use on the bottle and apply the diluted cleaner directly on a terry mop or cloth and clean your floors as needed. It is important to note that you should never wet mop your hardwood floors, as excess moisture will damage your floors and make them wear prematurely. For spills, food or other messes, wipe them up immediately with water and/or Detergent Neutro on a damp cloth or paper towel. Finally, be careful not to use non-recommended products when cleaning your floors as they may ruin the appearance of the finish, and cause problems for recoating. If you are ever unsure of a specific cleaner contact your hardwood flooring professional or VerMeisterUSA directly.
Even with proper maintenance your floors may eventually become dull or worn looking and need a recoat. A recoat simply mean applying another coat of finish to your floors as a way of extending the finish life and can generally be done in one day. This process is extremely subjective on wear and maintenance however, as wax or oily residue from cleaners, bare wood, and non-uniformed floor color can eliminate the possibility for this life extending procedure. It is important to monitor your floors and speak with your hardwood flooring professional about timelines and the possibilities of a recoat.
